Bell Flavors & Fragrances dates back to 1829 with its predecessor, Schimmel & Co. The scientific accomplishments developed at Schimmel established the foundation for technology still used in the industry today.
Works such as “The Encyclopedia of Essential Oils,” published by Doctor Eduard Gildemeister and Doctor Friedrich Hoffmann in 1899, as well as “The Theory of the Extraction and Separation of Essential Oils by way of Distillation” written by doctor Carl Baron of Rechenberg in 1923, became the standards for the production and use of these products. Outstanding achievements in the field of terpene chemistry had been recognized when Doctor Otto Wallach received the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1910.
Schimmel & Co. later evolved into Bell Flavors & Fragrances and became one of the leading flavor and fragrance companies in the world, a position in which Bell has occupied for more than 110+ years. While times have certainly changed since Bell’s inception, we remain a family owned business and continue to develop flavors and fragrances for brands all over the world.
